Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
1929 - 1968
U.S. Black Civil Rights Leader and Clergyman
| "I believe that
unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in
reality. This is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than
evil triumphant"
From MLK's Acceptance Speech for Nobel Peace Prize 12/10/64 |
"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." |
"There can be no deep disappointment where there is not deep love". From MLK's Letter while in Birmingham Jail 4/16/63 |
|
"Hatred paralyzes life; love releases it. Hatred confuses life; love harmonizes it. Hatred darkens life; love illuminates it" |
|
"Like an unchecked cancer, hate corrodes the personality and eats away its vital unity. Hate destroys a man's sense of values and his objectivity. It causes him to describe the beautiful as ugly and the ugly as beautiful, and to confuse the true with the false and the false with the true." |
|
"The past is prophetic
in that it asserts loudly that wars are poor chisels for
carving out peaceful tomorrows."
|
"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."
"We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools." |
"The hope of a secure and livable world lies with disciplined nonconformists who are dedicated to justice, peace and brotherhood." |
| Above are Quotes from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s speeches and writings. These Dr. King quotes reflect what we at Arious believe in and live by on a daily basis. | ||
Greetings our online Family: Celebrate and honor this special day by reflecting on the many of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. dreams, and works for equal rights, peace and justice for all. Even though he had a few short years on this earth, he achieved many things that have changed the lives of all people, especially Afro-American people, and the state of the world. From time to time messengers are sent to deliver a message that the world needs. Dr. King was indeed one of those important messengers. One of his important messages we seem to have forgotten is his non-violent approach to solving problems and situations, what we must remember is that his non-violent approach worked, and we must use it in our everyday lives. Once we do this there will be less confusion in the world today...for example the war Iraq!
Yes, it took many years for America to admit that Dr. King was a very important American. It wasn't easy, I recall all the marches in the cold, snowy days, right here in Washington DC, along with thousands of folks, and our black leaders and entertainers, rallying for this day to become a legal holiday. Dr. King stated he saw the day when we shall overcome, yes, it is clear that we have overcome in some aspect, by us being able to celebrate his birthday with a legal holiday.
If you are under the age of 40, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is just a part of history, but for those who are above 40 you know and have seen the struggle, and you have watched the dream of equal rights for all become closer to reality. We now have Afro-American Mayors, Governors/Asst. Governors, Supreme Court Justice, Congressmen & Congressmen women, Senators, Chief of Police, Golfers, great athletes, Entertainers and most importantly Secretary of State and National Security Advisor. The fight is far from over, and yes...we do have a long way to go, but we have certainly accomplished many of Dr. King's dreams. If he was alive today, he would be proud.

The National College tuition rates are rising at record levels…Get a head start with Section 529 state college savings plans and help your children reach for the stars. Most Section 529 state college savings plans allow parents, grandparents, other relatives, and friends to contribute to a child’s higher education fund. Grandparents can set up and manage accounts in the same manner as parents. The contributor makes decisions concerning pre-paying tuition or choosing investment options, and retains ownership of the contract or account until it is used to pay the child’s college expenses. |
