WHAT'S HAPPENING By: Todd Mangatal Greeting to All on my On-line Community: Hope every one of you had a nice holiday (Martin Luther King, Jr.) As I think about his life, all that he has done for our people, his goals and his assassination. It is no doubt that his life parallels "Jesus Christ". How very interesting!!! Does any of you agree with my thought? Hit me back and let me know at todd@ariousentertainment.com. Remember Black History month is upon us, so please be conscious. If you are in the DC area check out this THEATRICAL DRAMA TO BE PRESENTED AT HOWARD'S CRAMTON AUDITORIUM. "A Liberating Prayer: A Love Song for Mumia" will be presented by Cramton Auditorium on the Howard campus January 28 to February 1 The play uses as a historical backdrop the life and struggles of Mumia Abu Jamal, who remains a political prisoner in a Philadelphia jail, and focuses on an unlikely love story that tells of the fateful meeting of a young woman, Sage, and Mumia. The play is a multi-media performance work that makes use of capella music, historical slides and video footage. One of the features in a scene of "Free Mumia" protesters is a special appearance by Mrs. Pam Africa, an outspoken, fiery leader of Move Inc. in Philadelphia. CLICK THIS LINK FOR MORE INFO: www.ariousentertainment.com/song for mumia press release.htm This "State of the Union" address from President Bush was interesting. He spent the majority of time talking about Iraq, Saddam and the war, but. no where did he state that there were no weapons of mass destruction found. How very interesting! Our sons, fathers, mothers, daughters, sisters and brothers are dying everyday in Iraq on account of this war to "retrieve the weapons of mass destruction", and this "so called" mission to free the people of Iraq. Additionally, what about all the people of Iraq who have lost their lives, and the many families that have been torn apart in that country on account of this war. Really...Really...Interesting!!!!! If you "feel me", hit me back and let me know your thoughts on this issue todd@ariousentertainment.com Thanks to all of you who responded to my discussion regarding last weeks' comments on "Artist performance beginning on time". Many of you had some great points. However, I received one that I want to share with you from a local promoter who works with a local Production company - Walther Productions. I was introduced to Walther Productions through Derek Parker from "Big D" Productions, and from my experience with this company they are truly what the writer (Melinda) states "on the up and up" regarding their promotions of reggae shows. The point Melinda brought out was one that was on top of my mind, however neglected to mention it last week. Melinda is absolutely right and I do appreciate her comment. See below!.
Due to the extremely cold weather here in DC/MD/VA, Island Session has decided to "chill for a quick minute" on promoting their Thursday Night event "Soca Therapy". They are working on several promotions, which they expect to announce very soon. On behalf of Island Session, thanks to all of you for your support of "Soca Therapy"! We at Arious will be working closely with Island Session on some upcoming events, and we will definitely keep you inform. For the past few weeks, I've been hearing from many folks who informed me that they have been checking out Zanzibar on the Waterfront on Friday Night (International Happy Hour). They have expressed how much they enjoy the atmosphere. From our visits, we have seen so many folks that we have been partying with for a number of years. That's very good to see! Well, check them out this Friday, and check out the Caribbean floor. Many have told me it's "off the hook". We will definitely pass through this week, and make a point to stick around to enjoy the Caribbean Floor. Hope to see you there!!!!! Coming up in March is the DC 7th Annual Reggae Music Awards, which is an event that we look forward to here in DC every year. This event was a dream of Tony Java and now it's a reality. Consistently, for the last 7 years Tony has put on this event, and it has grown tremendously. This event has been traditionally held on the Last Tuesday in February for the last 6 years. The first year it was held at Crossroads Nightclub, the 2nd year it was at the Settings Nightclub, the 3rd and 4th year it was held at the Ascot Nightclub, and the 5th and 6th year it was held at Zanzibar on the Waterfront. Now, due to the growth of this event it will be moving to Friday, March 5th to the King Solomon Lodge in NE Washington DC. All of the nominations are in, and Tony is busy preparing for his big event. For the next few weeks I will be sharing with you some nominations, so let me know who you think the winner should be, and we will compare it to the outcome. Below I have listed the nominations for 4 categories...Wow, I see my wife is nominated below...Congratulations to Susan Mangatal!. Let me know your choice. If you have problems with submitting your entry, kindly e-mail me your choice at todd@ariousentertainment.com
