the economy and the major financial meltdown, it has been a week
from hell for America as this crisis continues.
Needless-to-say, the stock market has been on a serious
“roller coaster”, but as I think about it maybe roller
coaster is not the right word to describe it, because it has
been down more than it has been up.
The lawmakers in the House with all their party bickering and
fighting did not pass the “Bailout Bill” earlier this
week. It was rejected 228-205
bill being rejected caused the "Dow" to drop drastically to about 777 points.
Normally to a gambler who plays slots 777 means you've
won a Jackpot, obviously
not in this case!!!
Another big financial institution Wochovia Bank who has been
enduring major financial trouble was bought out by CitiGroup.
The "Dow" and "Nasdaq" (Wall Street)
continued falling all week.
After revising the "Financial Rescue Plan" (the $700
billion bailout bill), the Senate passed it 74-25.
However, instead of $700 billion, another $150 billion was
added to it (in the past 3 days,) making it a total of $850
billion that the Senate passed. Additionally, it has
been reported that this $150 billion dollar increase are for
"pet projects" and unnecessary tax breaks for big
businesses. Which is very distressing.
The House will have an opportunity to vote on the revised bill
with this $150 billion increase on Friday, October 3rd (the
bill they voted against on Monday.)
to the American people on talk shows and the mainstream media,
the American people really does not want this bill to
pass. Folks are saying "Let Wall Street Bail out
itself, and no one is bailing us (the American people)
the stock market keeps falling drastically, and many businesses
and Americans are losing money.
Todd and I faced
our first lost in the stock market, because one of the stocks we
purchased plunged drastically.
It is a minor loss...but still a lost.
We can just imagine how people are feeling whose stocks
were really in the high figures (worth hundreds of dollars), and
now has plummeted.
something must be done soon to stabilize this economy and bring
America back on to its feet. Whatever it takes, I believe
it must be done.
Presidential Election - November 4, 2008
were quite entertaining.
I understand from many polls Senator Barack Obama won the
1st Presidential debate that took place on Friday,
However, I am very interested in finding out your
thoughts on both debates: the Presidential debate, and the
October 2nd Vice Presidential debate.
me now-a-days (and probably for most Americans and residents of
the United States,) the economy and the overall state of America
is what I am very concerned about.
Therefore, the first 40 minutes of the Presidential
debate fascinated me.
Indeed it is very important to learn about the candidates
ideas regarding foreign policy, but for me the immediate
devastating financial crisis is what I feel need to be
I learned tons about the many issues regarding foreign policy as
they debated for the full 90 minutes.
Which was a major eye-opener for me.
On a personal note though, I found Senator McCain (1)
evidentially lacked respect for Senator Obama; (2) was extremely
contemptuous and condescending; and (3) was adamant about not
looking directly at Senator Obama when addressing him as
instructed by the host Tom Lehrer.
Additionally, the lengthy heated debate on the war in
Iraq and the surge in 2007 made me sick, because Senator McCain
undoubtedly has no intention of bringing the troops home from a
war that clearly should not have been fought; at least not in
though he says he honors their service, he feels they should
stay in Iraq and continue fighting. For what? I don’t know,
when the real target is located in Afghanistan.
He obviously feels our sons, daughters and loved ones
should stay in Iraq to fight, instead of coming home or even being sent to eliminate
the “root of the problem based in Afghanistan.
many lives have been lost in Iraq, when the real war or real
target should have been to eliminate the “root of the
problem” that is based in Afghanistan.
After hearing McCain, I still feel the Iraq war was
stupid and a mistake.
Vice Presidential Debate was excellent. Senator Biden
debated to my expectation and certainly didn't disappoint
me. He was quite good!
me, Sarah Palin was kinda impressive. It's obvious her
week's worth of preparation and "cramming" somewhat
paid off. It's clear she absolutely did what she had to do
to try and reinvigorate her party, gain the folks who are
independents, change the uncertain way folks began feeling about
her due to her disastrous interviews this past week, and most
importantly proved that she is knowledgeable and is a good speaker.
she was very vague and unclear when answering many
questions. Actually, she avoided and "straight
up" didn't answering several questions. For one she
refused to answer the question on the deregulation issue.
She pretty much "brushed off" answering, or was very
vague while addressing the consumer debt, mortgage and financial
crisis and was unclear when addressing civil rights for Gay
couples. Most interestingly when she was
given the chance to defend her running mate Senator McCain, she
stated she preferred to talk directly to the American people
about her own track record.
thing about stretching the Vice Presidential duties that Sarah
Palin addressed surprised me a bit.
overall it ran smoothly, and was very interesting. I was
still not convinced, nor am I "feeling" the
Republicans on their Maverick statement, and on their policy on
the War in Iraq and Afghanistan, the economy, and most
importantly their absurd health care plan. These are the
issues that are very important to me, and still they have not
answered my questions. I only "get" that they want to
fight, dictate and continue with war...war...war!!!
Presidential Debate is scheduled to take place on October 7th,
2008 @ Belmont University in Nashville, and the next one is
scheduled to take place on October 15, 2008 in New York.

about what one wears when voting. The rumor is as follows:
wears a campaign button or t-shirt into the polling place, will
they be allowed to vote?
