The Capital
Star Talent Search
by Susan Mangatal
|
The Capital Star
Talent Competition was excellent. For the 2nd week the
Competition was "tight", due to the massive amount of talent here
in metropolitan DC.
As a judge and using the
judging criteria that One Heart Charities has stipulated, I feel
it is important to let you know specifically what I am focusing
on. For me personally, the bottom line of my judging is
based on "STAR Quality." When I say star
quality, I mean The moment a performer walks out on stage they
begin to shine and glitter. That's "STAR
QUALITY", most importantly their performance must be exceptional.
Some of the things I focus on is how comfortable the performer
is on stage, how they deliver their performance, and it's
important for me to also focus on their appearance. STAR QUALITY IS WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR, and by
the outstanding talent I have witnessed these past few weeks there are certainly many here in this Washington, Maryland,
Virginia areas.
The performers again for
the 2nd week made it difficult for us (Mr. Eddie Schaffer and
myself) to come up with the 1st place, 2nd place and 3rd place
winners, simply because they all were very good.
|
1st
place Winner - Cordell "C.A." Wright
Cordell
"C.A." Wright utilizes his many life
experiences towards his success as an author, poet,
human rights crusader and educator. |
|
2nd
Place Winner - Mr. Eric Townsend
Eric Townsend is a singer,
songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer in the
mold of Prince or Lenny Kravitz. He has
consistently championed HIV/AIDS prevention through
musical events and business donations. Known first
for his musical versatility and lyricism, Townsend's
repertoire includes over 100 original songs that span
seven CDs. |
| 3rd
Place Winner - Marcus Brown
Marcus "DooDoo"
Brown a native of Washington DC became interested in
stand up comedy after keeping all of his co-workers in
the back of the staff meetings, all of the people
sitting in hearing distance at church, and anyone
inquiring "how Life has been?" in stitches
minutes after talking. No matter the situation Mr.
Brown is good for laughs |
I must briefly mention some contestants who made it difficult for me to make a
decision. Mr. Brian Glover (singer), delivered his rendition
of "Unchained Melody" with ease and confidence.
Ms. Nancy Wisniewski "did wonders to Etta James
"At Last", and her singing reminded me a lot of the
late great Patsy Kline, and Mr. G. Hector was indeed
"Tall, Dark and Handsome (per his bio), but he forgot to
mention smooth and talented. All three are truly talented
and has lots of potential.
To those who competed
please remember you all were winners, and don't forget you will
have a chance to compete again. Talk with founder/owner of
One Heart Charities Ms. Toni Samuels for all the
Details. For anyone who think they can be the next
capital star also contact Toni Samuels for all the details

Happy Halloween to all. I am
taking a break from my commentary this week, because I am busy at
work on a lot of exciting things to come here at Arious
Entertainment. Those of you who are in the DC Metropolitan
area don't forget to come out and support the Capital Star Competition, because without your support local
talent will fade
away and new talent will not be exposed here in DC. It was nice to see the crowd had doubled this
week, but that still is not enough, we need all of you to come
out and support these exciting artists!!! Look
out for this past week (week 2) video clip of all the
performers at http://www.ariousentertainment.us/Arious TV 2.htm
We send out condolences again
to Barry, Mikey, Cheryl , Shelly and the entire Hillocks Family on the loss of
their Dad Ricky. I feel your pain, I
went through the same thing last year and you never heal, that
loss stays with you forever. Just continue with what he
started, he was a pillar in this community.
