It's Columbus Day Weekend,
which means all roads lead to Miami for fun...fun...fun, and the
Miami and Ft. Lauderdale Carnivals
Since we have started our vacation and
I am suppose to be "chilling" and not doing or
thinking about anything I will make this e-newsletter
"short and sweet".
This city Miami is such a lovely place, and as
I sit on the balcony of our gorgeous hotel suite at the view
before me, I find myself focusing on the boats peacefully
sitting in the beautiful blue ocean right in front of me
eyes. I can't help but wonder why did we ever decide to
move back to the place we grew up (Maryland/Washington
DC). What in the world were we thinking? Florida on
a whole is beautiful and of course the weather is the best, how
could we leave this place for the cold...cold north. Weird
huh? I guess we had goals that we had to accomplish in our
What's even more weird for me is, as I
look over our itinerary and see absolutely no party activities
listed! I wonder, hummmm... is this a sign of getting old, or does this mean
we have finally come to our senses and realized that partying is
not everything, or is it simply that we have gotten too serious
(since this year have been such a critical and historical
one?) Regardless of what explanation it may be, for me
it's very strange and scary.
As we continue with our get-a-way here in
Miami we will definitely keep on passing through our favorite spots and
hideaways for drinks, lunch and/or dinner as we have been doing
and have done in previous years. I do
anticipate our heads being "bad" for a minute;
however, it certainly will not be as it has been in previous
years. (I must stop here for a minute and say Mango's
Tropical Cafe in South Beach is still extremely
I critically need to unwind, so we intend to spend
lots of time relaxing on the beach and definitely doing some
walking. I'm even seriously thinking about taking a tour of the city,
and that's a big change for me. Whatever we do though,
nothing will change about us checking out the Carnivals and
liming at each for a bit. Miami's first, and if time
permits we will "shoot" on over to Ft.
Lauderdale. As for Orlando, it's all about visiting
friends and getting caught up on their lives and
successes. There is no doubt about drinking in Orlando,
because with Caribbean folks, it's an insult if one comes to
town and don't have a few drinks with them, so I definitely
can't speak too much about being sober in Orlando.
For those who are here in Miami, please have a
wonderful time, we certainly plan on doing so. I'm sure we
will see many of our regular Carnival lovers and folks who just
love traveling to Miami to experience all the Carnival
excitement, as well as Miami itself. To everyone have a
wonderful Columbus Day Weekend!!
Unfortunately, one of our dear friends lost
his grandmother late last week, and as we think about the love
our friend had for his grandmother and the love she had for her
grandson, we absolutely know the pain he is going through.
In fact, this woman was a mother to him (she raised him), so the
loss is even more painful. As we reflect on the many talks
we have had with our friend about his lovely grandmother/mother,
we know how much she has prayed for him, loved him, and most
importantly how much pride he brought her, because of his major
accomplishments and successes in business. On the many
occasions we have seen
her and had the opportunity to talk to her, we always saw the
"beam" in her eyes of the deep love and pride she had
for her grandson. After expressing
our condolences to our friend he stated, "she is in a
better place," and we absolutely know it. More
importantly, she left this
earth comfortable and is at peace knowing that her
grandson worked extremely hard to becoming all she prayed and
hoped for (the successful businessman he is today.) May God
Bless her soul, and we again send our sincerest condolences to our
friend. May the lovely memories you hold dear of her always stay in
your heart and mind.
As you see I purposely have not talked about
the financial crisis or politics, even though it's still plaguing
my mind. My husband Todd and I promised each other we will
not focus on these issues while we are on vacation.
However, to be quite honest it's very hard not too.
I must briefly mention though, that the stock market
has been down all week making me wonder "what is up"
with this "bailout/rescue plan", when will it go into
effect so that things balance out; and the economy still doesn't
look like it will get better anytime soon. As
for politics, the past debate was fascinating and very
educational for me. I become so enlightened after they
take place, because Senator Obama always answers the important
questions that are plaguing my mind. Absolutely no "bologna"
from him, just straight and honest explanations, answers, and
how things can be changed and fixed. I guess I should
mention that the news media stated Senator Obama won the debate,
but for me debates are not about winning or losing, it's about
the issues that are effecting me as well as a high number of
I did hear a lot of negative talk about
Senator Obama from the Republican candidates being spoken at
their rallies, which is inciting
a bunch of hatefulness and despicable talk from the supporters
of the Republican party. Talk that should not be spoken
since it is pretty threatening to one's life. I strongly
feel Senator McCain and his VP Pick Mrs. Palin need to stop
inciting this kind of hatefulness. It's getting lame and
does not address the problems that are taking place in America
and to the many families who are suffering in America.
There is one more debate scheduled to take
place during the upcoming week. On Wednesday, October 15th
in New York. This one again I know will be educational for
me, so it would be good for all of us to tune in.
As I close, remember the Miami and Ft.
Lauderdale Carnivals will be taking place on Sunday, October
12th. If you are in Miami, please have a safe and

3rd and last Presidential Debate is scheduled to take place on October
2008 @ Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York. Even
though the focus will be on foreign policy, I hope a substantial
amount of time will be spent on the economy and issues that are
plaguing the lives of every American.
