have taken our minds off the nations troubling issues
especially the awful black on black crimes that have
been taking place these past two weeks, as well as the
deaths resulting from the Swine Flu; and we are off
to trendy and gorgeous Miami. A place filled with
excellent restaurants, cool bars, great beaches, and
clubs that are “off the hook”.
The atmosphere absolutely sizzles in lovely
Miami, especially due to the fantastic tropical climate
and the beautiful physically fit/sculptured people.
husband Todd and I can already taste the Mojitos from
our favorite spot in the “Hottest” place in Miami.
Yup, it’s lovely South Beach - home of
excitement and fun, along with the most beautiful art
deco homes, hotels and buildings.
Energy and electrifying nightlife totally
describes South Beach, as well as the scantily clad and
topless people who are always chilling on the beach
going about their business and doing whatever they like.
Even though I am aware of the lax beach attire
rules; every time we walk along the beach the clothing,
or very little clothing people choose to wear always
Imagine how stunned I am when we go to Haulover
to the Mojitos, ummm…ummm so good! So delicious that
my husband Todd very rarely have mixed drinks, but in
Miami he can’t help but try every flavor of Mojito,
and you know what, I’m sure I will be joining him this
drinking without a doubt will continue on the Cruise to
Mexico, and I am certain we will get some needed
for food, I know there will be too much (if it’s
anything like my special birthday cruise to Bahamas
Todd arranged earlier this year). From my observation, there are a great amount of various
foods on the cruise (all day and all night,) and since
it’s been months we’ve stopped eating meat it will
be interesting exploring our eating options.
you see, it's obvious I/we adore Miami, actually Florida
on a whole is enjoyable.
Therefore, if funds permit - you must get away
and spend some time visiting this lovely city.
We have found during this Caribbean Carnival time
the vibe is exceptionally fantastic…so check it out!

good, actually quite affordable. As of today per

$219.00; I believe Ocean View rooms and Suites are still
available, but you must call right away to find out the

know many of you are affected in some way or another by
this disease (breast cancer), and for me it was seeing
my grandmother living with it.
My saddest memory of her in Trinidad was the day
she was brought home after loosing one of her breast to
this awful disease, and as a kid it was so worrisome and
strange. Violet Harding or "Mammy DooDoo" as we lovingly called her
was an extremely strong woman, who never let this
disease stop her. I
recall her always shuffling around so very busy, working
and working after undergoing this devastating procedure.
She actually was the care keeper for our town
community center, and she was always doing everything to
be sure it was clean and well kept after her surgery. As for us the grandkids, we certainly kept her on her toes,
especially when we had committed ourselves to helping her with
her work at the community center, but instead goofed
around and played silly games.
Gosh the thought of her strength absolutely astounds
me; instead of letting this disease deter her from
her duties and living her life, she kept going and going
until her last day.
Sadly we lost her a few years ago, but she lived
a full happy life, and most importantly she saw most of
her grandchildren become parents, and was able to spend
time with some of her great
while visiting Trinidad my Sister-In-Law discovered she
had a lump, and in many ways she is like me because she
is not very fond of doctors. Therefore, she is
putting off getting herself checked out thoroughly.
I pray she visit her doctor real soon, and most
importantly that it is not a serious issue.

importantly, get screened NOW! Did you know
that Women who are 40 and older must have a
mammogram. Mammograms are an important part of
health screening and can help find cancers when they are
small and most treatable. I
have come to learn and understand many of the risk
factors that increase breast cancer, and just being a
woman and getting older is two of the most
important risks. However,
(1) leading a healthy lifestyle, (2) getting a more
general understanding of what factors may increase your
risk and (3) as I stated above get regular screening
tests (which can detect breast cancer early when it’s
most treatable) can help lower the risk.

Todd is known to be very critical, as well as
outspoken and honest about practically everything he
experiences, so imagine my surprise when he looked at me
and said he had a nice time at Reggae Star Carl Malcolm
and his Positive Vibration band 30th
Wow, it was very nice to hear.
is Todd’s a review (in his words!)
Last weekend on
Saturday, October 3rd Carl Malcolm and the Positive
Vibration Band celebrated their 30th year in the Music
night started off very nice. We arrived at
Zanzibar on-the-Waterfront fairly early, which is not
usual for us. And since we were so early we
decided to have dinner on the Southwest (SW) Waterfront (Southwest
Waterfront used to be a popular dining destination, in
addition to its famous fish market known as The
Wharf. This is a unique market for Washington DC
because the fish are sold off boats, and cooked seafood
is also available. So if you are in the DC area the
Wharf is one of those "Don't Miss"
my surprise most of the restaurants in this SW area were
closed, and it was only a little after 10pm, but we
found 1 restaurant open "Jenny's Asian
Fusion", which had a great view of the Potomac
River and the Washington Monument. The food at
Jenny's wasn't the usual Chinese food, and it was very
good. We both ordered salmon which was prepared
differently, additionally we were expecting rice with
our meal, but to our surprise the meals came with vegetables
and roasted potatoes. Yes, this was different but
it turned out to be great choices. After
dinner we headed down the block to the big celebration.
course we had to go through the usual security "pat
down" which was not cool! Upon entering the
club we realized Carl Malcolm and the Positive Vibration
had just taken the stage, which was a bit surprising - I
wondered why were they performing so early since they
were celebrating. However, I guess it worked
out because it gave the Positive Vibration crew an
opportunity to chill and enjoy their celebration.
band did a great job, even though there was a slight
problem with the sound (which is usual at
Zanzibar.) Carl gave a flawless performance
of his 3 big hits "No Jestering",
"Ms. Wire Waist", and "Fatty
Bum Bum", along with some of his newer
music. The crowd seemed to really love Carl and
was singing along to all of his songs. After
their performance Spyder The DJ and DJ Nemisis did an
excellent job maintaining the vibes.
2nd performer that took the stage was scheduled to be
the opening act, but I understand he had disappeared
when it was time to begin the show...his name was JR who
is from Sierra Leone. Unfortunately, I
didn't see much of JR because I was exploring the
other parts of Zanzibar and mingling.
it was show time and MC Tony Carr took the stage
and with his signature "ARE YOU READY!!!!!!"
he brought Maxi Priest to the stage. As usual Maxi
gave a great performance. Maxi Priest is one
artist who never disappoints, he performied alongside Beniton
the Menace and his son Marvin
Priest. All 3 artists really entertained the
crowd and performed greatly.
was one of those nights when the lights came on you
wanted more; actually the night seemed to have flown by
which is not normal nowadays. I guess the vibes
were right for a change.
Up Raymond Paris, please know that we appreciate the
hospitality. Again, congratulations to Carl
Malcolm and The Positive Vibration Band for 30 years,
and welcome to the Arious Family.
