I want to thank each and every one of you (my on-line family) for “MAKING” my week last week. After last week’s e-mail blast there was an overwhelming amount of you who were interested in Actor Hill Harper's book "Letters To A Young Brother: Manifest Your Destiny", and actually purchased it. I had not previously discussed with my sister my intentions of placing Hill Harper’s book information on our e-mail, and she was quite surprised when she discovered I had done so. Actually, throughout the day last Thursday, she kept monitoring the Best Sellers list on Amazon and to our surprise the book rose tremendously. The numbers are as follows: On Wednesday afternoon (March 29^th , the day before our e-mail) the book best seller # was 375. On Thursday, March 30^th soon after the blast was sent out my sister indicated the book had risen to # 75, at approximately 4:45 pm she indicated it had risen to # 22, and by the end of the day it closed out at # 16. What a big jump after our blast went out. Of course, Mr. Harper is thrilled and very appreciative for your support. To the many who wrote us expressing your interesting in having Mr. Harper come to your town for a book signing, I have informed his people, and I’m sure they will be arranging something soon. Congratulations Honorable Portia Simpson-Miller, Jamaica Prime Minister (newly elected)

Congratulations to the Honorable Portia Simpson-Miller who recently was nominated by the people of Jamaica as their new Prime Minister. The first woman to ever triumph in becoming the Prime Minister of Jamaica. I actually received some mixed reviews from folks regarding Ms. Simpson-Miller, but I personally wish her all the best and I hope she leads Jamaica on a successful path. Mrs. Miller was not new to the political game, she began her political career in the early 1970s, and eventually become Jamaica's most popular politician, and the first woman in the country's history to contend for the post of Prime Minister twice (2). Mrs. Simpson-Miller has been known as the heart and soul of the People's National Party (PNP) because of her strong, invincible and outspoken personality. In 1992 she ran for the Prime Minister’s post but did not win, however this did not stop her from achieving her goals and she remained the nation’s most popular politician. She is known as being defiant especially after last year when she split with her parliamentary colleagues and sustained from voting on an opposition motion on the nation’s depleted fire services. Below I have listed some of the promises Mrs. Simpson-Miller made to the people of Jamaica as she began her new role as Prime Minister (Supplied by Jamaica-Gleaner)

Crime plan:

· To implement a comprehensive policy and legislative framework that will enable government to address public safety in a coordinated and focused manner;

· Implement a targeted integrated community-based crime reduction strategy designed to significantly reduce crime, criminal activities and general lawlessness in the society;

· Implement a criminal statistical data system (CRISDAT) designed to facilitate strategic, operational and tactical crime management through technology and information management;

· Implement a comprehensive anti-drug strategy designed to reduce the supply and demand for illegal drugs and make the country less attractive as a transshipment point;

· Implement a comprehensive capacity strengthening plan to increase competency, physical infrastructure, welfare and performance of the security forces, and

· A comprehensive financing strategy, to fund developments in the crime plan.

Economic Plan:

· Encourage economic diversity by putting more focus on non- traditional sectors.

· Develop growth and developmental strategies for big and small businesses and the labour force.

· Put more focus on building human and social capital to develop the Jamaican people.

· Diversify agricultural products and increase landholding to produce more food for export and encourage rural development.

· Employ more capital to build industries and create jobs.

· Ensure schools and training institutions provide better educational and training opportunities for youth.

· Encourage more private sector/ government partnerships to prepare businesses to compete in the global environment.

· Lobby for a more transparent budgetary process that will improve government accountability to the people.
