It’s been a very busy week for us, therefore we will use this week’s blast for updates and reminders. First off, we received tons of responses regarding the extreme increases in the gas prices. Thanks to the many who took the time to enlighten me. Once, we sort through them we will share some with you. I want to pass on one e-mail that lots of folks have forwarded to me, and which apparently has been circulating on the internet (See below). It seems this is one solution to the high gas prices and it is easy to do. The below e-mail has some great points and is a good idea, so I'm going to start immediately. I figured if it can help with reducing these gas prices, then it's worth a try. "Together we can make a difference, and this is something that really needs to be changed. Join me and the many who has seen this e-mail and wants a change. Be sure to forward it 10 friends.

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign
that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at
that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to
buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.

BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really
work. Please read on and join with us! By now you're probably thinking gasoline
priced at about $1.50 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $2.79 for
regular unleaded in my town. Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have
conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50 -
$1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the
marketplace..... not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each
day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the
price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing
their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How? Since we all
rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas
prices if we all act together to force a price war.

Here's the idea:

For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest
companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not selling any
gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices,
the other companies will have to follow suit.

But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil
gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out at this point....
keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people.

I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us sends it to at least ten
more (30 x 10 =3D 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10
=3D 3,000)...and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of
people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers. If those three
million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people
will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE
>>>>HUNDRED MILLION >>>>PEOPLE!!!

Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all. (If you
don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this
to 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician. But I
am, so trust me on this one.)

How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more
people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be
contacted within the next 8 days!!!

I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you?

Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please
pass this message on. I suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY
LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN.

Today Hill Harper’s Book “Letters To A Young Brother: Manifest Your Destiny” was released. Mr. Harper will be signing his new book in our area next Saturday, April 29^th at Karibu Books in Pentagon City Mall, 1100 South Hayes Street, Arlington, VA. For those who pre-brought his book we hope it arrives on time so you can come out and get it signed. Directly after Virginia his book tour heads to New York on April 30th to Hue-man Bookstore 2319, Frederick Douglas Boulevard (125th & 8th Avenue), NY, NY @ 3:45 pm. On May 1st he will be signing his book at 2 locations also in NY at (1) Pomonok Library 158-21 Jewel Avenue, Flushing NY @ 2:45-5pm and (2) at Queen Central Library, 89-11 Merick Blvd., Jamaica Queens, NY from 7-9 pm. Finally, again in NY on May 3rd he will be at The Eagle Academy, 244 East 163rd Street, Bronx, at 3:00 pm to speak and sign books. From there, on the 4th he is scheduled to sign his book in Atlanta at The Black Madonna Signing Event, 944 R.D. Abernathy Boulevard SW, Atlanta GA from 6-8pm. Please go out and support Mr. Harper’s positive book, it’s for a good cause.

Before we move on to reminding you about this weekend's events and about a few upcoming events, we would like to congratulate Mr. Von Martin (Host of Caribbeana at WPFW 89.3 fm) here in Washington DC for serving our community for over 30 years. A special Tribute Concert will be taking place this weekend featuring Calypso King The Mighty Sparrow on Sunday April 23rd. Mr. Martin is very committed to our community and you might say he is actually one of the main voices for our community, and a leader. He is very well respected and appreciated in our town and around the world. His commitment to our culture and music is incredible, and it manifest itself through his show (Caribbeana). He has exposed our music to the American Audience by taking a familiar American song and showing how our Caribbean musician have interpreted the melody, most importantly he has shared important news and information to us through his show (Caribbeana) from our birthplace, and he has interviewed numerous people including Prime Ministers, Ambassadors, musicians, writers, etc. and even the former US Secretary of State (Mr. C. Powell). In addition, he has produced his popular annual Comedy Festival (which have been taking place for over 15 years). Most recently Mr. Martin was recognized and saluted at the 21st Annual Mayor's Arts Awards that was held at the Kennedy Center in January of this year. Mr. Martin's goal is to educate, entertain and enlighten, and that is precisely what he is doing, and has been doing for these 30 years. When I talk to Mr. Martin I'm normally in amazement because I gain so much knowledge, he is truly one of my mentors and a major inspiration in my life.
