  Greetings Online Family:

Spring is here, along with the beginning of the warm weather, which is certainly welcome!

As the weather warms up we start to feel like getting out and enjoying ourselves, and from all the communications we have been receiving from local promoters, it seems like it's going to be an exciting spring and summer season.  I have dedicated this entire e-mail to promoting all the exciting upcoming events leading up to DC Carnival.  Which incidentally is moving along as planned and should be more exciting than ever.  There are some great surprises in store for you for this years' event.  If you are coming into town for the Carnival, hit me back and let me know.  If you want to participate in a band or have questions, please hit me back, and we will lead you in the right direction in order for you to have the most enjoyable time here in DC.  If you have an event you would like to advertise relating to DC Carnival contact us, because we will be devoting much of the next  2 months to things happening in and around DC Carnival and around National Caribbean Heritage Month (June).

For the next few weeks, we in DC, MD & VA will be in for a treat with some great events.  Things start heating up with Denise Belfon (Ms Saucy Wow) and Bunji Garlin this weekend, and on Saturday, April 23rd join T&T Masqueraders (on of DC's Carnival Mas Band) for their "Ultimate Jersey Fete"  Click Here and Scroll Down for Details.

The fun continues next weekend with Pan Masters Steel Orchestra as they release their 1st CD on Friday, April 29th.  Join them at their panyard located at 4559 Rhode Island Avenue, North Brentwood, Maryland , as they launch this new CD.  There will be food, fun, and lots of steel pan music.  Scroll down for more details!

Then on Saturday, April 30th, Fox Creations in association with I.C.E. Entertainment and Radio Boyz will be presenting their "Short Pants vs. Mini Skirt" Event.  This takes place on Saturday, April 30th at the T&T Clubhouse on Georgia Avenue, NW in DC.  Click Here for details!

On Sunday, May 1st 2005, DC Caribbean Carnival presents their "May Day...May Day" Fundraiser.  This event is one you can't miss because DC Caribbean Carnival absolutely needs your support.  Not only should you come out and support, but you can not miss the wonderful line up of bands and artists scheduled to perform for you at this exciting fundraiser.  Click Here for Details!

Then, the following Sunday May 8th is Mother's Day, and on this day some wonderful ladies who call themselves "Klassik Productions" will be bringing you their "1st Annual Caribbean Gospel Festival".  What a way to celebrate Mother's Day with your mom!  Two of the ladies in this organization I had the wonderful opportunity to work with several years ago as we all were working together to make the Carnival Bandleaders Association here in DC a profitable, reputable organization.  These ladies actually brought one of the first Kids band in DC Carnival.  From working with these ladies, I can certainly say, this "Gospel Festival" is sure to be a great event.  Below you will find some details about "Klassik Productions" that I want to share with you.  Thanks to Mrs. Selman for taking the time out of her busy schedule (running her business Crown Bakery) to send me these details.

"Klassik Productions"

A Production Company

Mission: "Empowering Our Community Through Giving"

by Jennifer Selman

Klassik is made up of three women, Glenda Dickonson, Grace Arrindell, and Jennifer Selman, who recognizes the value of preserving and maintaining good will within our community. We are hosting our First Annual Caribbean Festival on Mother’s Day, May 8, 2005, to be held in the Auditorium of the University of the District of Columbia, under the patronage of Her Excellency Marina Annette Valere, Ambassador of the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago to the United States.

Partial proceeds from this event will benefit two charitable causes (1) The Trinidad & Tobago Working Women's College Scholarship Fund; and (2) The Grenada Hurricane Relief Fund.  To understand why these two groups have been selected, below is some background information about each.

The Trinidad & Tobago Working Women’s College Scholarship Fund is a non-profit organization based in Washington, DC.  They have been providing four $1,000 scholarships annually to students of Caribbean Heritage who are college bound.  Recipients of these scholarships are based on financial need.  Our goal is to assist in increasing the number of scholarships provided for the incoming freshman class of 2005.

The Grenada Hurricane Relief Fund: In 2004 90% of the island of Grenada was devastated by Hurricane Ivan. Although rebuilding of the country is underway, it will take many years before restoration can be complete.  We believe that when one member of our Caribbean Family is hurt, we all feel the pain, and until Grenada is rebuilt, contributions should be ongoing.  Klassik is committed to assisting, to the best of our ability in the rebuilding of the Island of Grenada.

We envision that this concert will serve as an opportunity to unite our community through an evening of celebration.

We decided to present our concert on Mother's Day to celebrate mothers in a special way.  We plan for this two-fold venture to be a wonderful, spirit-filled, first rate gospel concert featuring the Signal Hill Alumni Choir from Tobago, Gospel Recording Artist Sam Archer, Soca Sensation Roger George, backed by the Image Band.  Additionally, a Fashion show with Fashions to Soothe the Soul, courtesy Wilbourn Exclusives of Atlanta Georgia. (Two of their outfits will be presented as door prizes).

Tickets to this concert is a great Mother's Day Gift.  It is going to be a wonderful way to celebrate Mother's Day.
