of Pop The Legendary Michael Jackson Dies at 50
Michael Jackson
(1958-2009) - a major icon in the music
industry, mega superstar, singer, producer, multiple
Grammy winner, actor, and father suddenly passed away
Thursday, June 25, 2009 at 2:26 pm after collapsing at
his home hours earlier. We at Arious Entertainment
are shocked and saddened by this news and would like to
send our sincerest condolences to the Jackson Family,
Michael's children ( Michael Joseph, Jr,, Paris Michael
Katherine, and Prince "Blanket" Michael II),
our friend Grace, our beloved Shana, and to all his
adoring fans around the world.
Michael Jackson has been a driving force in music
and pop culture for the last 40 years and has been a
part of our lives in many ways. Once this all
sinks in we will gather our thoughts together and
prepare a tribute to the King of Pop. REST IN
PEACE MJJ YOU WILL CERTAINLY BE MISSED!
This
weekend will be electrifying in our area (DC, MD &
VA), because the Caribbean Carnival is here! Carnival
and all its events takes place this weekend beginning on
Friday, June 26, 2009 and continues throughout the
weekend until Sunday, June 28th. We have talked
about Carnival on many occasions, but some of you may
still ask "What is Carnival"? To the
folks who are aware of what we are talking about, abide
with us for a moment while we explain Carnival to the
folks who are unaware of it.
Carnival is fun; Carnival is a show - a show of
culture; Carnival is big business; Carnival is
"bacchanal" (meaning: crowd goes wild in a
concert, party, etc., crazy, out of control, nothing but
madness, mass confusion, and is exclusively used in
Trinidad and Tobago.)
Carnival
(The Caribbean Carnival) is similar to the Mardi Gras
that takes place in New Orleans, Louisiana.
However, "Carnival" within the Caribbean is
described as a festival - "a festival full of
colors" transformed into costumes or "Mas"
(short for masquerade); full of music (all types), but
mostly calypso, soca, steel band music, iron sections
and even reggae; full of dance; an array of ethnic foods
as well as Caribbean art. Some people describe
Carnival as a form of freedom of just letting oneself go
on the day/s of the event, and enjoying the music, the
parties...just having FUN!!! FUN!!! FUN!!! We
must not leave out drinking, because in Trinidad there
is lots of drinking.
This
year for DC Carnival you will find Arious Entertainment
along with our brand new Social Network "WWW.MYCARIBBEAN.US"
participating in the parade, which takes place in DC
along Georgia Avenue, N.W. from Missouri Avenue, and
continues to Banneker Park. Look out for our
vehicle as we drive the 3 mile route, and give us a wave
or come over and say hello to us. We would love to
meet you.
You
will also find us
at 3 big events over this exciting weekend.
Starting tonight, Friday, June 26th, join us at Indigo
Concepts, Sekouflex Entertainment and Superslice
"Flags Till Morning". This is the Friday
night Carnival Main Event. There is going to be
some of the hottest DJs on the planet, and soca artists
Tizzy, Kerwin Dubois, Patch and many more will be
performing. They say it's an indoor/outdoor thing,
so clearly it will be a great kick-off to your carnival
weekend.
Saturday
Night - June 27, 2009, you will find us liming at the
biggest event of the Carnival weekend "Soca In
Motion" by promoters Pumpstation Entertainment,
East Coast Caribbean Events, IP Music and The Asylum
Family. This is one you don't want to miss,
because it is Bunji Garlin's Celebrity Birthday Bash,
and it's hosted by Dancehall Superstar Beenie Man.
Bunji's wife FayAnn Lyons will be performing along with
Destra Garcia, Benjai, Patch, Hunter and Trini
Jacobs. The venue is the brand new renovated DC
Star (formerly The Tunnell). See you there, and
make sure you come early, because it is sure to be a
"sell-off". You are still able to get
your tickets in advance, so visit the ticket locations
now. You will see the locations listed on the
flyer below.

- June 28, 2009 - Look for us at the Ultimate Breakfast
Party - "Shine DC2". This takes place
from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. This is a daytime lime,
so come out and wine down.

DC Caribbean Carnival continues on Sunday in Banneker
Park "De Savannah" with a great day of fun
with food, art, caribbean crafts, and a fabulous show
featuring Alison Hinds. See our Featured Events
