THIS WEEK EVENTS IN

WHAT'S HAPPENING by Todd Mangatal Greetings To all, my on-line family: Due
to this week's busy itinerary, we at (Arious) started on this
"What's Happening" Weekly update very late. Forgive us
for the lateness! Last
night (Thursday, August 19th) we were graced with the musical sounds of
Steel Pulse here in Washington, DC. Walther Productions held this
concert at the 930 Club, and it was a great show. The turn
out was wonderful, lots of people from all races and colors were blessed
by Steel Pulse's uplifting sounds for 1 hour & a
1/2. From our observation, people/fans completely enjoyed
themselves; the vibes were really nice in the place, which was quite
noticeable from the moving, dancing, swaying and singing of all the
tunes by the many fans. We, and our small crew enjoyed
ourselves as well. I'd like to commend Walther
Productions on putting on such a quality event. Big up to Tim and
Mook! It
was really nice meeting and greeting many of you from our On-Line
Family, especially Ann, Frank, Dera, Ed, Ziggy, Gino from Reggae One,
Mr. Cool, Finiana (2003 Caribbean Pride Queen) and many more. Look
out for more Walther Productions events, they do it right! The
Miss T&T New York Contest took place on Wednesday night (August
18th) in Manhattan, New York at Mumbia Club, (soon to be called
"The City"). We arrived at this club and everything was
in place for us, thanks to Ms. Cummings. The club itself was
really nice and lots of people were in attendance. After finding a
spot to chill we began relaxing with drinks and food, soon thereafter
the DJ announced that it was time for the introductions from the
organizers, and the presentation and introduction of the young ladies.
Wow, the young ladies were "fine", every one of them!
I must agree with Brian of ICE Productions (he had e-mailed me and
informed me that these young ladies were very beautiful). They
truly are! Brian had seen them over the past weekend while he was
representing DC as a judge in the 2004 New York Soca Monarch Contest; he
stated they had made a special appearance at that event. Look
out for photos next week, so you can judge for yourself. Also,
check out the contest, which is scheduled to take place on September
19th at Pace University in Manhattan. Last
Sunday (August 15th) the DC Caribbean Carnival Inc. held their Annual
Awards Presentation Ceremony. The event was well attended, and
they had some great performances from the new Puerto Rican Group
who took part in Carnival this year (1st year) "Racies
de Borinquen", along with Melvin Deal West African Dancers &
Drummers and Pan Masters Steel Orchestra. The entire evening was
very nice and well organized. Congratulations to all the winners,
and thanks to all the supporters who attended. Photos will be
added to the DC Carnival site soon!!!! Last
Saturday The Trinidad and Tobago 25th Round Robin Soccer Tournament was
really nice. The thing we like the most about these events is the
"liming", and I must say even though it was pouring down
raining, that didn't stop the "lime", nor did it stop lots of
folks from attending. It was real nice! Thanks to Barry
(Roots and Culture Promotions) and his partners for the cocktails, along
with Arvy, Nigel and all there partners too. By the time we
were ready to leave our heads were feeling good. Oh, Mr. Seko
brought out the real Trini killa stuff (babbash), and my wife couldn't
resist, so of course she was "real right" after that.
Susan from Baltimore was hanging too, and it's always a pleasure seeing
Susan...Big up! A lot of people who know Susan from Baltimore will
agree with me. Congratulations to
Mark Kendal, his family and partners for a successful event...The rain
didn't stop the crowd! Also, congratulations to the winners:
"Flavor Kids" who won The Open Division, and "The New
Jersey Islanders" who won The Masters Division. Oh,
with our busy schedule this week, I completely forgot to mention (above) that
we saw Culture last Friday, and they put on a great show.
They performed for at least 1 hour and 1/2 and had intended to do more,
but the concert was held outside and the rain stopped the show.
However, I think everyone was fulfilled with Culture's performance.
It's such a treat to hear these positive artists/groups such as Culture
and Steel Pulse, who have been in the business for many years.
Clearly, Positivity creates Longevity!!! In
closing I want to thank everyone who responded to us last week in
regards to our article on "Slackness". I'm happy to say
many of you agreed with our comments, and some of you even gave some
good input on how to solve this problem. One good suggestion we
got from many people was that concerts should be rated, just like movies
are. I too think that's a great idea. However, I was very
pleased that this particularly commentary was very thought provoking to
everyone, and was a topic for much discussion this past week.
Everywhere we went people wanted to discuss this issue with
us, and we really appreciate that. Please continue giving us
feedback on all of my commentaries, good or bad, all of it is welcome,
because we obtain so much knowledge from your comments and suggestions. Let me congratulate the winners of the 2004 New York Soca Monarch Contest. 1st place winner is Meschach, 2nd place winner is D'Royce and 3rd place winner is Kaotic. To the local folks, this weekend we'll see you all at Pang's Birthday Party. Happy Birthday Pang!!!!! Until
Next Week!
Have
a wonderful weekend! |
For anyone in our community or those who are out of town, who wishes to submit a commentary about an event you attended, or just want to tell us about an interesting experience, please feel free to submit it to us at ariousentertainment@earthlink.net, we would be glad to include it in our weekly commentary.
