On-Line Family and Friends: Greetings
to all of you!
As we all go through life‘s
journeys we look towards the mountaintop, and on our way
there we all travel through life‘s roads!
Roads that are extremely difficult, challenging,
sometimes thrilling; and filled with lots of twists and
it all, we however trod on through our troubles,
emotions, successes, and valleys of experiences; and
courageously continue on our upward path to reach that
dimension of greatness we see ahead of us. That vision
we see…and so believe we will/and long to achieve!!!!
have heard many say: “Everybody‘s journey is
I suppose they are, but for me even though it‘s
somewhat individual, I am not walking along [through]
this journey ALONE.
I have someone beside me who always cast a light
of goodness upon my/our upward journey.
A support that is truly powerful, purposeful,
precious, committed; and that contributes toward the
building of the dream; and creating ways for me/us to
reach that mountaintop and ultimately great success.
Indeed, I am talking about my friend, companion,
teammate, and husband Todd Mangatal; who I must add
insist on individuality.
some time now I have been saying to folks “Don’t
get it twisted, he is the genius in our family”.
Certainly, I have a little “something…something“
going on, but it’s nothing compared.
You see, when a thought or topic comes to my
mind; if we are not together I pick up the phone and
share it with him, and immediately I receive honest
answers, opinions and insights on that thought.
Only then do I flow when I write, because he
would have already given me several scenarios and even
facts on that thought or topic.
Therefore, when I write I am confident that the
topic is cool and the facts are “ON POINT. “
He WILL NOT hear it when I say “Hummmm, I
received some nice comments about a commentary, and
it‘s all because of you. ”
He simply says: “what are talking about? I
did nothing, you did all the work! ”
You see, I say this to point out that it is a
team effort. All
we do are done as a team.
It’s no one person doing it all, we try to jump
in and help each other through this journey we are
I can’t see the light in the tunnel ~ along the road
ahead of us, he sees it for me; and when he cannot see
that light, I am there to lead him in the right
are simply friends, and are on the same team working
towards the same goal.
For this I am truly thankful and tremendously
Mr. Mangatal tells me all the time
I see your potential, and I know what you must do!
Consequently, he has laid out the plans and goals
for me (individually) for what I must do; which truly
blows my mind and has me extremely fatigued
(specifically my mind at times); because I know it will
be a difficult road getting there.]
However I am; and he is confident I will
accomplish them one step at a time, especially with his
help and support. So
if/when you are around me and you hear me say “Hummm…I’ve
got a lot of things to do,” keep in mind I am not
only talking about what I need to do tomorrow, the next
week, or the next month.
I am talking about the goals and long range plans
he has laid out for me…LOL!!!! I guess rest/sleep is out of the scenario.
As I bring these comments on Todd
and our Journey to a close, I must take a brief moment
to commend Todd on the creating of www.mycaribbean.us.
He worked long and hard on this project, with
lots of sleepless nights.
Of course, I did some things, but he was the
mastermind behind it all ~ the concept ~ the design ~
and the long range goals. He reminds me now how I felt he was creating more work for
me, and I would neglect his insistence and urging for me
to sit down and immerse myself within the site.
I just laugh and try to explain, [jokingly]
“…well…you always seem to find a way to give me
work, and I had been overwhelmed with what I had to do
I did plunge in and immersed myself I became motivated;
and the site became a part of my soul too.
Therefore, I committed every free moment I had on
helping him build it.
Certainly, it will always be a work in progress,
but it is fantastic to see something that was just a
thought and a dream, become a reality.
along we go on this beautiful and strange journey…on
this long, challenging, winding road to reach the
ultimate; and the best part is we are doing it as a team
~ ~ TOGETHER!
August 6, 2010, is a very important day in Jamaican
history, because the lovely Island of Jamaica

is a celebration of the struggles and sacrifices of the
Jamaican people who took their own destiny in their
hands 48 years ago on this day in 1962. It's
certainly a celebration of the journey of a strong and
proud nation, with a rich heritage who stood on their
own feet 48 years ago!!!!
all the distressing and devastating unrest; as well as
violence that occurred some months ago in this lovely
Island; Jamaicans have lots to celebrate on this special
day, especially their many achievements.
May this lovely island and its people be
our Jamaican family and friends we know this is a
festive time for you. This past Sunday, August 1st,
you celebrated Emancipation Day (the 176th
anniversary of the abolition of slavery in Jamaica), and
today you celebrate Independence. These
celebrations are continuing through this weekend, as
well as throughout this month. Therefore, we
at Arious hope you, your family and friends have a
fabulous time celebrating.
the residence of Washington DC, tell me how do you feel
about this bag tax that was made into law in January of
I don’t live in DC but I do a lot of business
there, and spend quite a lot of time there on a daily
basis; and I am completely not “feeling” this
Keep in mind I am aware of it, but I am always
taken by surprised when I am asked if I want a bag.
For instance, some weeks ago while shopping in DC
the cashier asked if I would like a bag, with a puzzled
look on my face I said “certainly. ”
She then proceeded to tell me the cost.
During this interaction I asked her a bit angrily
“what If I had said no… you would have let me
walk with these items of clothing in my hands in public?”
she muttered something I could not understand.
However, knowing that she has nothing to do with
this tax, I chilled.
course I had to learn all I could about this imposed
burdensome tax (to some); and discovered that initially
the District of Columbia Government began imposing a 5
cents tax per plastic bag in January of this year; and
their plan is to use the revenues from this tax to
combat pollution in a local river, specifically for the
Anacostia River Cleanup Fund. [Plastic bags are a common
source of litter and are fodder for landfills.]
From what I discovered, the cost to families in
DC would turn out to be $5 million this year, or the
residence would choose an eco-friendly alternative to
[In the past 6 months the bag tax generated
approx. $1 Million.]
Mayor Adrian Fenty admits the purpose of the tax is not
to add a financial burden to residents and city’s
shoppers, but to encourage folks not be taxed at all:
“I studied this law in order to reduce the amount
of plastic bags that pollute our rivers.
We want the whole world to know that you can save
the river and save five cents by bringing your own
well and good regarding plastic bags, because indeed the
results are: (1) much less bag usage by customers,
[hence changing consumer behavior;] and of course the
limit of pollution in the local rivers/bays.
However, now it seems it has transitioned from
plastic to an overall bag tax.
I simply do not understand why paper bags must be
taxed, because it is biodegradable and eco-friendly.
I understand too that the tax is a major source
of revenue for the city, and in a recent report Mayor
Fenty has proposed an intergovernmental transfer of the
bag tax funds to pay for general city services, which is
necessarily related to any environmental programs.
Clearly moving away from what initially the funds
were to have been used for [the pollution and clean up
of the city’s rivers/bays.]
with me what you think about this new bag tax imposed on
the residence and shoppers of Washington, DC.
[13 other states are considering enacting taxes
on plastic and paper bags.]
you heard of Welectricity?
Welectricy is an innovative, award-winning
tool for delivering energy efficiency via social
networking, and this week through my friends at WPFW
Radio Station 89.3 FM in Washington DC (specifically

Arious Family, this week my buddy Mal and I have been
working on improving and expanding the HollisLashley.com

spiritually uplifting oasis. Today, I am moved to quote
the words of Deepak Chopra from his book, "The Seven
Spiritual Laws Of Success"
We are travelers on
a cosmic journey- stardust, swirling and dancing
in the eddies and
whirlpools of infinity. Life is eternal.
But the expressions
of life are ephemeral, momentary, transient.
Gautama Buddha, the
founder of Buddhism once said.
This existence of
ours is as transient as autumn
To watch the
birth and death of beings is like
looking at the
movements of a dance.
A lifetime is
like a flash of lightning in the sky,
Rushing by like a
torrent down a steep mountain
We have stopped
for a moment to encounter each other, to meet, to
love, to share. This is a precious moment, but it
is transient. It is a little parenthesis in
eternity. If we share with caring,
lightheartedness and love, we will create
abundance and joy for each other. And then this
moment will have been worthwhile.

few days ago President Barack Obama celebrated his 49th
Birthday. As I sit here reminiscing about his road
to the Presidency, I am motivated to share with you one
of his inspirational quotes. [Below}. Happy
Belated Birthday Mr. President!!!
will never forget that the only reason I'm
standing here today is because somebody,
somewhere stood up for me when it was
risky. Stood up when it was hard.
Stood up when it wasn't popular. And
because that somebody stood up, a few more stood
up. And then a few thousand stood
up. And then a few million stood up. And
standing up, with courage and clear purpose,
they somehow managed to change the world."
