WHAT'S HAPPENING by Todd Mangatal Greetings
To all, my on-line family: We at Arious would like to send our sentiments to everyone in the islands, and to those here in Washington and the US who are worried about their families and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with you!!!!
As you are aware, Hurricane Frances slammed the Bahamas and once again devastated many parts of Florida and Georgia, where approximately 14 people were killed. Many folks lost everything. In the past day we here in the DC/Maryland area got hit with the last of Frances, and it passed through still with vengeance. Many tornadoes touched down, and of course many homes were destroyed. We are still experiencing flooding. Thank God no lives were lost here. Please keep all who are suffering from this devastation, and those who may be affected from these storms in your thoughts and prayers. At times like this it's our duty as humans to help, therefore our friends at Caribbean Connection in conjunction with Zanzibar on the Waterfront and us (Arious Entertainment) have organized a Relief Effort. Check the message below for more information on how you can help!
Potential 24 Hour Caribbean Internet Radio Please Take Survey One of our on-line family indicated that they are working on launching a 24 hour Caribbean Internet radio station and they would like to get your input. Could you kindly complete the survey attached so they will know your needs and what direction to proceed?
We made it to New York Carnival just in time for J'Ouvert, and despite the cold weather, people came out in large numbers, and had lots of fun. We would like to congratulate DC Pan Jammers on their successful first appearance in the J'Ouvert. It was clear everyone was proud of this new DC band, because the support from the DC/MD folks was outstanding at J'Ouvert. As usual we enjoyed New York!
Soca Invasion Hits DC this Sunday This weekend don't forget Princess Monique from St. Vincent and King Ajamu from Grenada will be in town for the DC Soca Invasion. They will be joined by many other artists. This will take place on Sunday, September 12th, at the Mirage Hall in Silver Spring, Maryland. Click here for more details, or scroll down to view the ad.
Before we close, we would like to leave you with a word of warning,. Due to a friend being "jacked" at gun point at a local nightclub, we want I stress to folks to be alert and careful. PLEASE BE ALERT OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS, AND OF THE PEOPLE IN YOUR SURROUNDINGS, and always watch your back. Most importantly, if you witness a crime in progress don't look the other way, make sure you get as much information as possible, and be sure to call the police immediately!!!! (Everyone has a cell phone nowadays). That one phone call could save many lives. This is the only way we can help stop these crimes. It's really sad when things that you normally see on the news, such as people getting shot, people getting robbed at gun point, children stealing cars, and killing innocent people are happening to people you know, and even yourself. We've really got a big problem. What are we going to do? Who's committing these crimes...our children! This is sad beyond words!!!!
Until Next Week!
Have
a wonderful weekend! |
