WHAT'S HAPPENING by Todd Mangatal
To all...my on-line family:
The suffering still continues from Hurricane Ivan. I know you all may be saying "enough about these hurricanes", but the devastation were so severe, that we must continue to pray for all who have lost their homes, their loved ones, and all their possessions. May all of them get the help and strength they need to get their lives back together from these awful tragedies.
Ivan which was downgraded to a tropical storm after blasting ashore in Alabama and the Golf Coast last Thursday finally made it to our area (VA, DC, MD) on Friday, and it hit us very hard as well. Our biggest destructions came from the tornadoes that Ivan spawned. These many tornadoes (at least 12) ripped through homes and buildings demolishing them. A farmer in West Virginia described his experience of Ivan as "It seemed as if the tornadoes were targeting all my buildings, it would touch down on a building, demolishing it; then picked itself back up while over open land, and just continued on it's destructive path by touching down only on the buildings completely destroying them". That's strange isn't it? To me it sounds like some sort of war was taking place from the skies, and we were being attacked, especially since buildings were targeted. Hummmmm? It's also strange how tornadoes target specific houses/buildings, while missing the ones directly next door or across the street. This is a very strange occurrence. From what we witnessed, the skies were unbelievable from the dark clouds that moved rapidly above us, along with tons of rain that fell upon us, causing lots of flooding. I understand from the weather reports that Ivan has gained strength, turn itself around and is heading back to the United States expecting to hit Louisiana again, and Galveston Texas. Strange isn't it? What is Ivan trying to do? I guess he didn't cause enough damage.
As for Hurricane Jeanne, she has gained strength and her winds are approximately 100 miles per hour, she is expected to hit the Bahamas and then head to Florida's Atlantic coast. Jeanne hit Haiti this week with major rains that caused lots and lots of flash flooding. She left Haiti in major devastation, destroying approximately 4000 homes, and killing over 100 people, with 1000's still missing. I honestly don't know what's going on with this strange and dangerous weather, this entire situation is baffling, unexplained and extremely strange to me. Please keep all the victims who are suffering in your prayers and thoughts.
Many groups around the country have been doing fundraisers for the hurricane relief effort. From the many reports I am receiving, it's great to hear the massive out-pour of help for the victims in the Islands. As for the fundraisers in our area, it's wonderful to see the huge support from folks. Next weekend, some of the musicians in this DC/MD/VA area have gotten together and have planned a big event, which is labeled "One Caribbean "- Artistes in Action for Caribbean Relief in Association with Crossroads - Benefit Concert. At this event you will have another opportunity to help out this worthy cause, and sample some of the great local entertainment from this Area. This will take place on Sunday, October 3rd, and will feature performances from Image Band, Oasis Band, Strykers Passe Band, DKGB Band, Trankill Haitian Band, and Pan Masters Steel Orchestra, along with The African Heritage Dancers and Drummers, Spoken Words and comedy, and appearances and performances by surprise artistes. Additionally, as you are aware we are dedicated to helping our friends at Caribbean Connection with their hurricane relief efforts, and this weekend they will be collecting items at different locations. To get details you can call the President of Caribbean Connection Beverlee Dawkins at 301-455-3576 or the Vice President Yolanda Alleyne at 301-580-5866, or e-mail me (Todd@ariousentertainment.net) here at Arious. Once again please support their efforts. Read the message below from Ms. Dawkins, and to learn about donations drop off locations, and times.
Also on Saturday, October 2nd Golden Touch Productions along with ICE Productions will be collecting donations at their pre-Miami Carnival "Jump Off" Event. So, when you attend this event, don't forget to walk with a donation of some sort. It will be taking place next Saturday, at the T&T Clubhouse. Scroll below to the ads to view the details.
The time is drawing near for Miami Carnival, and it really seems like it gets more and more exciting every year. Again, there will be 2 Carnivals in the South Florida area on the same weekend. Of course, one is the Carnival in Dade County, which takes place in downtown Miami, and the other is the Breward Carnival, which will be taking place in Ft. Lauderdale. There are lots of events and parties planned around both events. I also heard the Source Awards will be taking place on Carnival weekend again, so it should be a "star studded" weekend in Florida. If you haven't booked your hotels, airfare or rental cars yet, hit us back because we have got some discounted rates on all.
Our friends at ICE Productions will be hosting it's first After Miami Carnival Party called "Stamina", so you know what that means, the party will be going all night long. Hope your stamina is up for this exciting event. Support ICE and his partners by attending this event in Miami at the Marlin Hotel in Miami Beach. Scroll below for details.
This weekend, is pretty quite in this area, I guess we all are just getting ready for Miami Carnival. So enjoy the quietness, because Miami will be off the hook. I understand Josey Wales, Brigadier Jerry, Charlie Chaplin and Downbeat "the ruler" will be in town this weekend, so you know we'll be chilling at this Studio 1 Style thing!
To our on-line family have a wonderful weekend, and please be careful.
Until Next Week!
a wonderful weekend!
