On-Line Family and Friends: Greetings To All Of
Your!!!
The
Labor Day Holiday weekend is here ~~~ the last big
holiday of the summer!!! However, this holiday has
a more significant meaning: It is dedicated to the
social and economic achievements of American Workers.
An annual national tribute [and celebration] to the
contributions workers have made to the strength,
prosperity and well-being of this country.
Gosh,
this Labor Day weekend signifies the end of summer for
most of us, and in our communities here on the East
Coast quite a number of us take the summer out with a
huge bang; as we celebrate at the exciting New
York Labor Day Caribbean Carnival/Festival presented
by the West
Indian American Day Carnival Association.
I
must point out though, for many of us this last holiday
weekend is normally spent with family and close friends
at barbecues, parties, picnics, beaches, and just trying
to have lots and lots of fun.
Due
to this being the last holiday of the summer, we at
Arious decided to take this weekend off, and just relax
our minds and our souls. And to further reconnect
with family and close friends, as well as bring balance
to the important things in our lives.
So forgive us for not preparing our usual weekly
commentary.
Actually, we had lots of feedback from last
week's E-Newsletter that we had intended on sharing,
but decided to put on hold.
We
however are happy to share with you Mr. Hollis
“Flash” Lashley's “FlashPoint”.
Mr. Lashley salutes Trinidad and Tobago on its 48th
Independence. Please
read this lovely piece/tribute to his homeland
[below.] Additionally, remember
you can purchase a copy of Mr. Hollis Lashley motivating book
of poetry entitled "Gifts
From The Heart" log on to: http://www.xlibris.com

We
wish you an enjoyable and lovely Labor Day Holiday
Weekend, filled with family, fun, barbecues and even mas
and revelry. Most
importantly may you have a safe holiday, and please
don’t drink and drive.

HAPPY
LABOR DAY!

Hello Arious
Family, hope you had a wonderful Independence celebration.
This is my take for the occasion.
"Letter
To Mother Trinbago"
From:
Your Son and Daughter Abroad.
I hope
that these few lines find you in good health, and
that you are taking something for the headaches
that those children at home causing you to
have. I know you would say that not all of them
are 'nogood', but I mean well.
Well
Ma, we just left the interfaith service, and I
feel proud to see the family get together to pray
for you and those at home. It had the Hindu, the
Moslem. the Baptist and the Christian singing and
praying together. I sure it had some unbelievers
too, but at least they stay quiet.
I
notice that some people I expected did not show
up, but I should not burden you with old talk. So
Ma girl what going on, and how things going since
the change of Government? You think that things
looking up, that we have more hope for change now?
I read the Prime Minister's speech, and I really
do not know what to think. It sound hopeful, but
still a little frightening as I cannot see any
clear plan in how the changes we need could come
about.
Ma,
look at the school children and their disrespect
for authority, how are we handling that? Look at
the crime and the lack of conscience that
criminals are displaying, what causing that?
My
sister saying that I should focus on the good
things we doing, and that is true, but I can't
forget the Trinbago I know growing up in the
village. Joan, Elmo, Fox, Baker, Larry; all of us
used to walk in the moonlight and feel safe
We
could walk home from the community center at three
o'clock in the morning without fear. What happen
to the country Ma?
Now I
know that many of us here will not want to
associate with this letter, as they have made it
professionally. In fact sometimes we treat each
other worse because we have a lil more cacada, and
we could show off. We forget how to care for each
other. We go to church on Sundays or Saturdays,
but the rest of the week is Thunder. We have a
million Associations with a thousand people in all
of them put together. We competing and bad talking
each other when we could get together and be more
powerful, but like the politics at home, we prefer
to be a chief in a lil tribe, than to be a force
in a large movement.
But
wait Ma. I do not mean to preach doom and gloom,
or to put down our positive contributions to the
world. We have plenty good people in our society,
and one thing I know. The Trinbago Spirit is a
powerful Spirit for good, and when it bite you,
you could stand up against any and all odds,
because you come from the roots of a blend of
world civilizations, creolized in the sun with the
universalized Spirit of the Creator.
Ma I
glory in our Scholars, our Musicians, our
Artistes, our Mystics who see beyond stupidity,
our people who are able to transcend the narrow
divisions of class and embrace the family of
mankind. Ma, I open my arms to the possibility
that our children can move on the world stage and
transform the planet into one of empowerment for
good.
Ma,
thanks for raising me to know compassion and love
for my family.
Ma, I
feel that Trinidad and Tobago should be officially
known as Big and Little "Trinbago"
I
believe we should focus on Nationality rather than
Ethnicity as we interact. And I also believe
that we should have One Trinbago Association with
branches wherever we find ourselves residing.
I
believe that the impossible comes to be accepted
at last as very doable.
Ma,
thanks for all you sacrificed for me, and I will
love you to the death.
Say
hello to mih brothers and sisters at home, and I
can't wait to come home again. I have to go now
but I will write again soon with more news.
Much
Love, your son and daughter abroad.
Hollis
"Flash" Lashley (c).
